Charging into the mainstream: Volvo electrifies its first class-8 truck

This is the Volvo VRN Electric, the company’s first electric class-8 truck.

Volvo has been testing the VNR Electric in a range of configurations, like this tractor-trailer.

… or this class-8 electric box truck.

There were a few different VNR Electrics on hand at the event, held at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, in February.

DC fast charging is up to 150kW.

It’s not quite as fast as filling a truck with diesel, but it’s a lot less smelly.

This is one of the 66kWh battery packs. It weighs 1,267lbs (575kg) and has a nominal capacity of 99Ah and 663V.
