Bugatti had planned to debut its new Chiron Pur Sport at this year’s Geneva auto show, but COVID-19 scuttled that idea. Earlier in July, the car did finally make it to the Swiss city for a photo shoot, however.
-
Frenk Heyl, Bugatti’s deputy design director, has styled the Chiron Pur Sport to optimize the car’s aerodynamics to increase downforce.
-
This Bugatti won’t go as fast as the other hypercars it makes, but it will go quicker—in a straight line and also around corners.
-
The interior is a mix of Alcantara and carbon fiber.
-
Heyl’s last project was the Chiron Super Sport, seen here on the right. Compared to the Chiron Pur Sport (left), the Super Sport is optimized for pure speed, hitting 305mph (490km/h) at the Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany.

The different design philosophies can be easily understood when you look at both cars from the rear—the Super Sport has an elongated tail to control how the airflow detaches from the back of the car as this is crucial for drag reduction. By contrast, the Pur Sport has a completely different diffuser and a massive fixed rear wing, although the gains in front downforce are actually more significant than at the rear.
